From January to mid May each year the largest Striped Marlin in the world converge on the New Zealand coast line. This makes New Zealand game fishing a dream for many!
The average New Zealand Striped Marlin in approximately 250lbs, but it’s not uncommon to tussle with stripey’s nearing 400lb. Black and Blue Marlin in smaller numbers generally arrive in February and fishing for both these species can last until the end of April.
New Zealand is unquestionably the best place left in the world to tussle with large Swordfish. Regarded by many as the ultimate game fish due to sheer power and strength, combined with having to fish at night makes fishing for swordfish a great challenge for even the world’s most serious angler.
Spearfish, Bigeye and Yellowfin Tuna, Dolphinfish and Yellowtail Kingfish are also available. With such a variety of game fish on offer in our waters, a variety of techniques are used! These range from switch- baiting, dead-baiting and live-baiting through to lure fishing depending on target species and feeding characteristics.
4 day charters are recommended to maximise fishing time at great destinations such as the productive Three Kings Islands. Charters can be added on to any hunt package! We are happy to offer assistance to arrange travel and find a suitable package to meet your requirements.
Late December to early June is the season for striped, blue and black marlin, as well as yellow fin tuna, shark, mahimahi and shortbill spearfish (in the Bay of Islands). However there are “hot spots” throughout the North Island on both coasts for catching these fish.
